AxisBiotix
A companion app that helped psoriasis sufferers track, understand and take control of their skin health journey
The
challenge
AxisBiotix is a scientifically formulated daily supplement designed to support psoriasis-prone skin, and the brief was a companion mobile app that helped users track, understand and take control of their skin health journey. The product had a clear clinical purpose, but the business wanted to go further and give customers a practical tool to monitor progress, stay consistent with the supplement and feel genuinely supported.
The app had to work as a personal diary. Users needed to photograph changes to their skin, score affected areas of the body over time, review progress through clear statistics and set reminders to take the supplement, alongside a support section where healthcare professionals could post guidance.
The real challenge was human, not technical. The app had to feel like a friendly companion rather than a clinical tool or another daily chore, appeal to people who were not especially tech-confident, and make a difficult and often frustrating condition feel manageable.
Our
approach
We began by creating the brand. The identity needed to reflect the science behind the product – credible, clean and rooted in the clinical thinking that makes AxisBiotix different. We developed a visual language that communicated the precision of the formulation while remaining accessible and reassuring for consumers. The same brand thinking carried through to the packaging, which needed to feel premium and trustworthy on shelf and online, and to the website, which gave the product a clear commercial home with the right messaging, product information and conversion journey. To drive awareness and sales, we planned and managed paid advertising campaigns, targeting relevant audiences and directing traffic to the website and product pages.
With the brand, website and campaigns in place, we turned our attention to the app. We worked closely with AxisBiotix and with people who actually live with skin conditions, ensuring that the design decisions were shaped by real experience rather than assumption. We used an agile development methodology throughout — working in iterative cycles of design, build, test and refine. Good practice in app development means involving users at every stage, not just at the end. We conducted structured user testing sessions at each development phase, covering usability, clarity, accessibility and emotional response. Each round of testing generated clear, actionable findings that directly improved the next iteration.
The result was an app that felt considered, warm and genuinely useful. The diary functionality made tracking easy and consistent. The body-scoring system gave users a structured way to monitor change over time. The statistics view turned individual entries into a meaningful picture of progress. The reminder system was simple and unobtrusive. And the professional advice section gave users access to credible, expert-led content within the same environment.

Impact
The app launched to a positive reception from AxisBiotix’s customer base. Due to commercial confidentiality, we are not able to share specific figures, but the growth in hosting demands on a month-by-month basis clearly demonstrated the scale of adoption and the sustained demand for the app among users.
The most meaningful measure of success was simpler than any metric: people were using it. Consistently, regularly and as part of their daily routine. That is exactly what the brief asked for.
